Slick Teaser Poster for 'The Wolverine' & Live Chat with Hugh Jackman and James Mangold

wolverine-poster

James Mangold's The Wolverine remains one of next summer's most intriguing blockbusters, a Japanese-set entry in the X-Men franchise that aims to bring its action into the realms of visceral rage and grounded realism. A character-based approach to a corner of filmmaking that has become bloated with effects and, frankly, a bit bland. Director James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line) and star Hugh Jackman sat down this evening for a nearly twenty-minute Q&A discussion, providing new details on the experience, characters, and narrative for The Wolverine. Check it out after the jump, along with a slick new teaser poster for the film. The Wolverine opens July 26, 2013 and also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova.

Matthew Vaughn Exits 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' Bryan Signer May Direct

x-men-first-class

Deadline reports that director Matthew Vaughn has dropped out of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to last summer's X-Men: First Class starring Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Kevin Bacon. Vaughn, who also declined to direct the sequel to Kick-Ass, will apparently helm a separate project for Fox — potentially Secret Service, an adaptation of the Mark Millar comic book series. So with Vaughn out, who steps in? Word has it that Bryan Singer, director of X-Men and X2, is at the top of the shortlist. He has been a guiding force for the spinoff, writing the treatment and producing, but whether Singer holds any interest in returning to the franchise as director remains unclear. With the flailing disappointments that were Valkyrie and Superman Returns behind him, and the waiting-to-flop Jack the Giant Slayer on the horizon, it certainly wouldn't be a bad move. Fox remains intent on a July 28, 2014 release, and the original cast are all set to return, so expect a new director to be confirmed shortly.
