'Hitchcock' Trailer: Anthony Hopkins as the Master of Suspense

hitchcock-poster

Not to be confused with this year's other Alfred Hitchcock movie, HBO's The Girl (which chronicles the making of The Birds and stars Toby Jones and Sienna Miller), Sacha Gervasi's Hitchcock slices through the apparently tumultuous making of Psycho in 1959 and the behind-the-scenes love story between Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) and his wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren). Fox Searchlight just debuted the trailer for the film, providing a look at its refreshingly bouncy tone and strong performances across the board (I think we can already pin Hopkins and Mirren as likely nominees for Best Actor and Actress). With a supporting cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Toni Collette, Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, James D'Arcy, and Danny Huston, this is definitely one to keep an eye on come November (the 23rd, to be more precise). Synopsis and trailer (via Apple) after the jump.

New Clip from 'Rust and Bone'

rust-and-bone-marion-cotillard-matthias-schoenaerts

Surely to make some headway in this year's Best Actress race, Marion Cotillard stars alongside Bullhead's Matthias Schoenaerts in Jacques Audiard's Rust and Bone, the director's latest project following 2009's searing A Prophet. Cotillard plays a killer whale trainer who suffers a tragic accident, colliding with Schoenaerts's brawler -- a man who must balance poverty and fatherhood with dreams of becoming an Ultimate Fighter. The film premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival (to many raves), and will open November 2nd in the UK and November 23rd in the US. A new clip for the film has premiered online courtesy of Optimum Releasing, which you can check out after the jump along with the UK trailer (just in case you missed it), which still stands as one of my favorite previews of the year.

'Skyfall' Behind the Scenes: Alex Zane's 22-Minute Featurette

skyfall-daniel-craig

At just under a month away (even sooner if you live in the UK), Daniel Craig's third outing as Bond appears to be coming together in all the right ways. With the assured hand of director Sam Mendes at the helm, a villain full of genuine interest in Javier Bardem's Silva, gorgeous photography by Roger Deakins, and the sort of plot with sincere and cutting developments that Quantum of Solace could barely muster moment-to-moment, Skyfall is shaping up to be a 2012 tentpole that doesn't disappoint (sorry The Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus). Our latest look at the film comes courtesy of Sky Movies, with presenter Alex Zane on an expansive set visit full of cast interviews and behind-the-scenes action. It clocks in at at a hefty twenty two minutes, but certainly worth watching if Skyfall is high on your radar. Check it out after the jump. Skyfall opens November 9th and also stars Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Berenice Marlohe, Ben Whishaw, and Albert Finney.

Armie Hammer Rumored for Batman in 'Justice League' Movie

armie-hammer-109

Another day, another superhero casting rumor. Moviehole brings word from "a very good source" that The Social Network's Armie Hammer "is back on WB’s radar" to play Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie. Wait, back on Warner's radar? Turns out Hammer was set to play Batman in 2007 for George Miller's long-gestating Justice League film. "We had gotten a long way into pre-production," Hammer recalls in a recent interview with MTV. "We were about to start shooting when the writer’s strike happened at the end of 2007, and then the Australian government denied a 40% tax rebate that they thought they were going to have, so a lot of things just when wrong."

With solid roles in The Social Network, Mirror Mirror, and J. Edgar under his belt, along with a lead turn in Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger on the horizon, it's no wonder Hammer is back atop WB's list of potentials. Of course, it's a bit disappointing not to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt don the cowl after those final moments of The Dark Knight Rises, but that's also assuming the new solo Batman films will use the same actor as the Justice League's Batman, which may not be the case according to Moviehole's source: "the Batman in this movie might only be used in Justice League movies".

Nicolas Winding Refn Says There Will Be No 'Drive' Sequel, But Driver Might Appear in Another Movie

drive-ryan-gosling

Bad news for Drive fans (or, well, what really should be taken as good news): the 2011 neo-noir drama starring Ryan Gosling will not be receiving a sequel according to a recent interview with director Nicholas Winding Refn. "That is never going to happen," he told The Evening Standard. "But the character of The Driver might return in another film. We're playing with that idea. We'll see what happens." The news flies in the face of Drive author James Sallis' comments over the summer that his book sequel Driven was being developed into a movie. "[The Driver] is trying to suppress the violence – but the sequel shows the process of him accepting that this is who he is," Sallis explained to The Independent. "He tries to become a normal person and re-invents himself. After his fiancée is killed, the violence is unleashed again." But what of The Driver appearing in an unrelated film? I'm going to say don't hold your breath on that one. Refn made similar comments about Mads Mikkelsen's One Eye from Valhalla Rising.

But don't fret. The Gosling-Refn duo will be back together next year for the release of Only God Forgives. The film follows Gosling as Julian, a man who runs a Thai boxing club as a front organization for his family's drug smuggling operation, as he is forced by his mother Jenna (Kristin Scott Thomas) to find and kill the individual responsible for his brother's recent death.

scarlett-johannson-hitchcock

A late addition to the awards race from Fox Searchlight, Sacha Gervasi's Hitchcock, based on the novel Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho by Stephen Rebello, centers on a behind-the-scenes love story between filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) and his wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren) during the production of Psycho in 1959. With a trailer imminent, Fox has released four new images from the film featuring Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins, Hopkins as Hitchcock, and Mirren as Alma. Hitchcock opens November 23rd and also stars Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, Toni Collette, Michael Wincott, Kurtwood Smith, Richard Portnow, and Danny Huston. Check out three more images after the jump.
