Alliance Films has unveiled a new featurette for Brandon Cronenberg's Antiviral, starring Caleb Landry Jones, Sarah Gordon, and Malcolm McDowell. As the son of prolific filmmaker David Cronenberg, Brandon's debut comes with much expectation (it premiered at Cannes back in May to mostly positive reception, and will screen next week at the Toronto International Film Festival). Antiviral opens in Canada on October 14th -- a US release date has not yet been announced.
ANTIVIRAL follows the story of Syd March (Caleb Landry Jones), an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to rabid fans who wish to partake in the ultimate form of communion. Syd supplements his income by selling illegal samples of these viruses on the black market, smuggling them out of the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills superstar Hannah Geist (Sarah Gadon), Syd becomes a target for collectors and obsessed fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding the starlet’s death before he too meets a morbid end.
